Sermon Description

John 20:1-2

  • 1 Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, while it was yet dark, unto the tomb, and seeth the stone taken away from the tomb.
  • 2 She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we know not where they have laid him.

John 19:38-42

  • 38 And after these things Joseph of Arimathæa, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took away his body.
  • 39 And there came also Nicodemus, he who at the first came to him by night, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.
  • 40 So they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.
  • 41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new tomb wherein was never man yet laid.
  • 42 There then because of the Jews’ Preparation (for the tomb was nigh at hand) they laid Jesus.

Mark 16:1-8

  • 1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother  of James, and Salome, bought spices, that they might come and anoint him.
  • 2 And very early on the first day of the week, they come to the tomb when the sun was risen.
  • 3 And they were saying among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the tomb?
  • 4 and looking up, they see that the stone is rolled back: for it was exceeding great.
  • 5 And entering into the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, arrayed in a white robe; and they were amazed.
  • 6 And he saith unto them, Be not amazed: ye seek Jesus, the Nazarene, who hath been crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold, the place where they laid him!
  • 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, He goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.
  • 8 And they went out, and fled from the tomb; for trembling and astonishment had come upon them: and they said nothing to any one; for they were afraid.

Isa 52:13-15

  • 13 Behold, my servant shall deal wisely, he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high.
  • 14 Like as many were astonished at thee (his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men),
  • 15 so shall he sprinkle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they understand.

Isa 53:4-5

  • 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
  • 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

John 19:23-27

  • 23 The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
  • 24 They said therefore one to another, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith,
  • They parted my garments among them,
  • And upon my vesture did they cast lots.
  • 25 These things therefore the soldiers did. But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife  of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
  • 26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold, thy son!
  • 27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold, thy mother! And from that hour the disciple took her unto his own home.

1Cor 15:12-23

  • 12 Now if Christ is preached that he hath been raised from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
  • 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither hath Christ been raised:
  • 14 and if Christ hath not been raised, then is our preaching vain, your faith also is vain.
  • 15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we witnessed of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead are not raised.
  • 16 For if the dead are not raised, neither hath Christ been raised:
  • 17 and if Christ hath not been raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
  • 18 Then they also that are fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
  • 19 If we have only hoped in Christ in this life, we are of all men most pitiable.
  • 20 But now hath Christ been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of them that are asleep.
  • 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
  • 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
  • 23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; then they that are Christ’s, at his coming.
